Dim Lit Room 03:04
Sitting in a dim lit room at night... if you read too much they say you'll hurt your eyes sitting in a dim lit room at night... I wanna hold your body close to mine See, I've been working all day long my feet are sore and my brain is numb just wanna lie in bed right next to you and think on a day when our dreams come true... Maybe someday we'll get out of here... I won't wanna sleep tonight There will be too much going on in my head So even if I wanted I probably couldn't Alright... Sitting in a dim lit room at night... sitting in a dim lit room at night... sitting in a dim lit room at night... if you read too much they say you'll hurt your eyes.

The Author 04:03
"As she looked at me..." Oh, write on! Oh, write on! "As she spoke to me..." Oh, write on! Oh, write on! Oh, once was I Sick and tired of the waiting Oh, then was I To discover the fire burning "Forest host the trees..." Oh, write on! Oh, write on! "Mountains sing the breeze..." Oh, write on! Oh, write on! Oh, to say these words I've been forming in my heart! To voice these thoughts I've been thinking, now expressing... "The World in all it's woes..." Oh, write on! Oh, write on! "...still such great beauty knows." Oh, write on! Please write on!

Silhouettes 04:03
Hear me now, I am speaking Please refrain from that kind of thinking We have oft, often wondered What it is we are doing There are many who might say We are getting in the way We have challenged them in wit We are tired of their shit In the dark I still see you Silhouette in my bedroom I have tried, tried to fight it But you have given me comfort There are many who might say We are getting in the way If that's so, I cannot see Just outlines of you and me Pick it up, put it down, take it outside Have a pull, take a drag, leave them behind There are many who might say We are getting in the way But the old king now is dead And there are problems still ahead We've resided in the darkness In order to be silenced But these silhouettes have voices! Hear us now we are speaking!

Genuine 03:41
Sometimes you and I are the victims of A lack of honesty Awkward glances at what is said and done We're oh so hesitant Tear down these walls I long to be Vulnerable Genuine It's the bitter taste of our existence That keeps us around Conflicting emotions- creation and destruction The weighing the two out Tear down these walls I long to be Vulnerable Genuine Fear of rejection, the want for validation We play it cautiously But I've grown tired of second guessing Where you and I will be Tear down these walls I long to be Vulnerable Genuine

Oh, hold me close as the music plays Uh-oh Oh, feel my ghost. Won't you please stay? Uh-oh Whisper to me what I need to know I long to hear Your voice is a light in the dark I won't see this fall apart And your touch feeds a hunger in my heart I won't see this fall apart Whisper to me what I need to know I long to hear Your voice is a light in the dark I won't see this fall apart And your touch feeds a hunger in my heart I won't see this fall apart Your touch is a light in the dark I won't watch this fall apart And your kiss feeds a hunger in my heart I won't see this fall apart No... Oh, hold me close as the music plays Uh-oh Oh, feel my ghost. Won't you please stay? Uh-oh

Shall I confess to you? There are somethings I haven't shared Though often thought to... Many a time, many a time, many a time Have I caught my tongue upon Sharp snaps and awkward phrases There are no clouds in sky, the sun's shining bright I suppose the timing is right There are no clouds in the sky, the sun's shining bright I've been told the timing is right Oh, taking a turn... In the overgrown grass we walk around Out by the trees, away from the town We talk of things that others rarely do Refreshing it is to speak with you Not run-of-the-mill "oh, how do you do?" Pretenses, facades, all thrown away in the shade Never obliged to speak in my tongue Freely you do this song has been sung Into my heart, something so strong Familiar, yet it is new Oh, taking a turn I instigate these strolls with hidden motive Oh, it's my clever ruse! I use these walks to be with you and you alone

Walking Home 02:42
Back on the ground No longer in the clouds Ranting aloud I'm walking home When was it then? That's how it's always been... Sick of this shit I'm walking home The plummeting feeling That you're not there The underwhelming reality... The people stare What do I fucking care? My feet are cold While walking home

White Noise 03:48
White noise Fills these ears Your love Took these years Away from me Away from here This loss has caused Has caused these tears When the summer came, when the summer came When the summer came, it came with the rain White noise Fills these ears White noise To shake these fears Away from me Away from here This loss has bled Has bled these tears When the summer came, when the summer came When the summer came, it came with the rain

Untitled 02:52
A never-ending staircase That takes you where you wanna be And the friends that you have will easily replace you And the job that you do will just overwork you Flies surround your apartment And nothing ever seems to stay clean So while you bicker about who does the dishes You're forgetting to say what you really mean I am a simple man, don't want much for anything Just a roof top my head And the feeling that life is gonna be worth it Maybe in eleven years, things will go more pleasantly But right now, I think they won't So tell me to feel better? I DON'T
10.
Hold your breath Sick to death We can't afford to live Lost the job Down n' out Ain't no way back in And your mother's got the cancer So school is not the answer So send the kids off to war To a cause they ain't rooting for Raise a glass And we'll all drink a toast To The Struggle We get less They get more So what the hell are we working for? This is purposely unstable Things get bad You scream and curse So why the fuck would you make it worse? They are blind with the ignorance of power Raise a glass And we'll all sing a toast To The Struggle How my heart aches With the pain of love Watch us slowly die While the others scorn Human rights So they say Unless you're a female or gay Or if you're from some other country What is mine Is not yours Even if it was before We'll ignore and we'll back it up with privilege Raise a glass And we'll all drink a toast To The Struggle So raise a glass And we'll all sing a toast To The Struggle How my heart aches With the pain of love Watch us slowly die While the others scorn There's no room At the top Though they lie and say there is And there are few that will see Through this Some will fight Some will lose Sadly some won't even choose Rest of us at the end of the day We'll raise a glass And we'll all drink a toast To The Struggle So raise a glass And we'll all sing a toast To The Struggle

The Rain 02:54
Wet Streets Fresh Air Taking a walk out in the rain It's strange that I could feel this way Cold Drops Touch Me I can feel the falling rain I'll stay out in the rain all day Cold Drops Hit Me I can feel the wet all over me I see world begin to breathe I Love You Dear More than the fresh air of the rain It's great that I could feel this way

Ellie 02:00
There's a girl with a seahorse on my mind With hands that will play you the saddest song With eyes that tell you stories of everything In elaborate detail Ellie Somewhere there's a someone who knows my thoughts Without elaborate crystal ball or cards Who hasn't gone insane after all this time This time Ellie And I promise we'll someday have a home Decorated in exquisite taste I'll play for you, feel free to sing along We will laugh like children Ellie

about

"There is a worldly quality to Joey Brandin that transcends Salt Lake City. Though the singer-songwriter recorded his debut album, Dim Lit Room, in the very apartment shown on the LP’s cover, the songs themselves go beyond the enclosed area of their origin—you’ll hide away in the French Riviera while listening to “Untitled” and walk yellow beaches to the tune of “Silhouettes.” However foreign their feel, the tracks still carry with them a familiarity, one akin to the warmth and repose of a new home made your own."
